An artifact of Cash Money's earliest era, True Story represents the label's humble beginnings in addition to B.G.'s. Cash Money originally released this album in 1995, years before breakthrough hits like "Bling Bling" and "Back That Azz Up," and later revived it in the wake of B.G.'s breakthrough Chopper City in the Ghetto album in 1999. Unlike the older B.G. of that album, the Baby Gangsta of True Story is indeed a baby -- barely a teen he is. It's understandable then that the rapper is a little undeveloped. Producer Mannie Fresh moreover hadn't yet entered his prime either, so the album as a whole seems formative; relative to what Cash Money would deliver a few years later, when they re-released True Story.
